Here’s a chicken wing recipe based on one that I somehow ran across on YouTube. It’s impossible to give credit to the author, as two unrelated people have posted the same recipe. Go figure.
I will say that these taste like a recipe found on YouTube: seemingly intentionally-incongruous ingredients and the wings are not intensely flavorful. Is it worth making them? Yes, if not just to try something new. Will you enjoy them? You surely will. They’re not terrible by any means.
I have heavily edited this recipe for clarity.
Have at it!
What you’ll need
- Chicken wings 1 – 2 lbs.
- 1T baking powder 15 g / 0.5 oz
- Salt and black pepper
- 3T olive oil
- 1T butter
- 3T tomato paste
- 3T soy sauce
- 1T honey
- 1T mustard
- 0.5 cups Coca-Cola
What to do
Mix the tomato paste, soy sauce, honey and mustard in a small bowl and set aside.
Sprinkle the wings with salt and pepper. In a large heavy-bottomed frypan, fry the wings in the olive oil and butter over medium-high heat for 4 – 6 minutes until the skin has browned a bit.
Turn the heat to low and add the reserved sauce to the frypan, mixing it in to ensure each wing is covered in sauce. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes.
Add the Coca-Cola and mix it in with the wings. Cover the frypan and cook the wings over low heat for another 20 minutes, or until cooked through at 165 degrees in the center of the wing.
Remove the wings to a platter and serve hot.
